Offa Community Council is proud to announce that  the Grand Unveiling Ceremony will take place on Saturday 18th March at 12 noon outside the Barracks on Kingsmills Rd in Hightown. The project to erect a life-size statue in bronze of a Royal Welsh Fusilier and Regimental Goat in a floodlit landscaped setting will be unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd.

The RWF Committee with sculptor Nick Elphick prior to groundworks commencing.

Councillor Graham Rogers has been heavily involved with fund-raising for the project for several years and is pleased to see the project come to fruition.

This exciting project is to commemorate the long association of the Royal Welsh Regiment going back over 300 years with the town of Wrexham. When unveiled it will be a wonderful attractive landmark on one of the main routes in to the new city.

The project is being undertaken by Offa Community Council assisted by comrades from the regiment. Nick Elphick is the sculptor awarded the commission and members of the Community Council and many comrades recently travelled up to Llandudno by coach to the artist’s studio to view the progress on the sculpture. It was an emotional moment for several of the comrades who were thrilled with Nick’s work so far.

Many local Community Councils, local businesses and members of the public have contributed to the project as well as larger firms such as Kronospan and Ifor Williams Trailers who have both contributed several thousand pounds each to the overall costs.

All contributors will be invited to the grand unveiling ceremony. This is truly a project that the whole of town is getting behind and something to make our new City of Wrexham proud!
